Renting out a home in Fort Worth: city rules
In Fort Worth, registering a one- or two-family rental is voluntary while the property is clean and mandatory once it has certain violations — so the cost of a violation is not only the repair.
- Voluntary registration
- Registration is voluntary for one- and two-family rentals with no violations.
- When it becomes mandatory
- Registration is mandatory for one- and two-family rentals with fire safety and/or public health and sanitation code violations.
- Fee
- $200 a year for each unit with violations.
- Out-of-state owners
- Out-of-state owners must designate a local agent to accept legal service and a contact for local emergencies — on the voluntary and the mandatory path alike.
- TCU Overlay District
- Inside the TCU overlay, single-family zoning districts carry an occupancy limit of three unrelated persons.
