Renting out a home in McKinney: city rules
McKinney's rental registration program covers short-term rentals. The city's page lists long-term residential leases among the things a short-term rental is not.
- What has to be registered
- A short-term rental — a house, apartment, room or other dwelling rented for thirty days or less. The city lists long-term residential leases, apartment complexes renting standard units, hotels and motels, and licensed bed and breakfasts as not short-term rentals.
- Fee and renewal
- Registration is free, runs annually, and each rental unit is registered separately.
- Contact requirement
- Every registration names a responsible person who can be reached 24 hours a day about concerns.
- Tax
- Short-term rentals pay Hotel Occupancy Tax.
